Benzyl Chloride
Description
Benzyl chloride is a colorless or slightly yellow transparent liquid. It is a carcinogen with a pungent odor. It is slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such as benzene and toluene. It is an important chemical and pharmaceutical intermediate.
Nature
Benzyl chloride is usually colorless or slightly yellow with strong
benzyl chloride chemical reaction
Strong pungent odor liquid, tear-inducing. Miscible with chloroform, ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. Insoluble in water, but can be volatilized with water vapor. Hydrolysis generates benzyl alcohol. Decomposes rapidly on heating in the presence of iron.
poisonous! Combustible, may form explosive mixture with air. There is a danger of explosion and combustion in case of open flame, high temperature or contact with oxidants. Potential carcinogenicity: positive reactions in animals, uncertain reactions in humans. Mutagenic to microorganisms. Eye contact may cause permanent damage, possibly causing conjunctival and corneal protein degeneration. It is corrosive and can cause burns and pain for hours in mild cases, and can cause bullae, rashes or eczema in severe cases. Continued inhalation of high-concentration vapors can cause airway inflammation and even pulmonary edema. Ingestion can cause gastrointestinal irritation, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting and central nervous system control.
After benzyl chloride is mixed with ethanol and water, the color is white turbid liquid.
Folding storage and transportation information
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30℃, and the relative humidity should not exceed 70%. The packaging must be sealed and must not get wet. It should be stored separately from oxidants, metal powders, alcohols, and edible chemicals, and should not be mixed. Equipped with the appropriate variety and quantity of fire equipment. Storage areas should be equipped with emergency release equipment and suitable containment materials.
